There’s a lot we can learn from The Little Engine That Could. The saying goes, “I think I can. I think I can,” doesn’t it? He thought he could. So he did. And that my friends, is called manifesting abundance.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about an abundant mindset; about the value of positivity and about what we put out into the universe through our own thoughts. In life, it’s up to us to either see the world as abundant or limited; as glass half full or glass half empty. And I have a sneaking suspicion that how we feel has an effect on what actually happens to us.
Post-college I lived in New York for my first “big girl” job opportunity in the PR department at ANN INC. During my time there, I had the chance to have lunch and chat with the CEO, Kay Krill. Kay made it a point to mentor new hires and employees who were at the start of their careers, and as a newbie, it proved to be an invaluable conversation. At the end of our meeting, she handed me a print version of one of her favorites quotes- a quote that still hangs on the wall in my office all these years later. It states:
“I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element.
It is my personal approach that creates the climate.
It is my daily mood that makes the weather.
I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous.
I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.
In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized.
If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Our mindset decides what road we travel on. Positivity attracts positivity and the secret to having all is pretending that you already do. Right? (Tired of me speaking in bumper sticker yet?)
Listen, I’m human. And I, like you, have days that are just a big, fat NOPE. As a creative, sometimes I feel so uninspired I don’t even want to move off of my couch. And unless you’ve been living under a rock, the recent events in this country are making the idea of being positive about anything a near impossibility. I get it. Things can be hard. Crappy things will happen in life. It’s just part of the journey. What I’m talking about isn’t necessarily going to fix any those things directly, but the idea of manifesting abundance- thinking big vs. thinking small, being proactive vs. reactive, embracing and accepting change vs. fearing it- is what truly makes a shift in our lives. Mentally putting out what you want to come back to you is akin to preparing yourself to squeeze every bit of happiness and joy out of life that you can.
So how the heck does one get started? This article on Inc. will break it down for you.
And though I may not be an expert (it seems I cop to this every blog post), what I am is a 30-something woman trying to figure out where (or wear) I am at the moment. And right now, I’m manifesting abundance. Who’s with me!?
